Recently I’ve been play around with non-embedded Facebook applications, i.e. ones that can interact with Facebook from your desktop or add Facebook features to your web browser. I’ve also had a look at third party website’s that use Facebook’s API.

Here is my comprehensive list… 

Firefox

  • Firefox Toolbar – Be alerted within Firefox when your network changes and share content easily with your network
  • On the same page as the Firefox Toolbar you can also get Facebook as a search engine for Internet Explorer and Firefox
  • Facebook Photo Album Downloader – Easily download whole photo albums off Facebook
  • Firefox Universal Uploader (fireuploader) – Upload photos to Facebook, also supports Flickr and YouTube uploads
  • Boost Facebook – Main reason for installing this add-on is it’s Autologin feature, but it also has many more hacks it can apply to Facebook
  • Picnik -  Send pictures directly to Facebook and Flickr within Firefox, edit them too

Apple Mac

  • Facebook Exporter for iPhoto – Enables iPhoto to export photos directly to Facebook
  • Friendsaver – Generate screensavers based on your friends photo’s
  • Facebook Widget – Notifies you when updates occur in your network
  • FacebookSync – Syncs your Facebook contacts with your Mac Address book, one way of course

Windows

  • Facebook Photo Uploader – Dedicated application to upload your photos
  • fbquick – Receive instant profile notifications on your desktop
  • Friend Explorer -  Display and sort your friends as if they where in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. You need to right click on the MSI file and Save As.
  • fbTrayNotify – Sits by the clock in the taskbar and notifies you when updates occurs in your network

Internet Explorer

  • Internet Explorer Toolbar – Same as the Firefox toolbar, notifications and content sharing

WordPress

Opera Widget

  • Opera Widget – Display and search for your friends, show their status, receive notifications of messages, pokes etc.

Web Based / Java

  • FriendVis – Creates a visual map showing how your friends are connected
  • Friend Mapper – Maps your friends onto Google Maps – (Boo USA only!), stop press a UK version here and other one here
  • Google Gadget – Add Facebook stats/status to your iGoogle page
  • FBcal – Generate a birthday calendar of your Facebook friends and add it to Apple’s iCal, Mozilla’s Sunbird, or Google Calendar.
  • lickuacious – Produces various interesting statistics on your friends, your networks make up (sex, relationship status etc), very interesting!
  • Flickr2Facebook – Post your Flickr photos to Facebook
  • thefriendmatch – Matching making
