Cammo Tower

Now I bet many of you have seen this tower when driving between the Queensferry Road and the Airport but never actually stopped to invesigate.

It has been said that Cammo Tower which can be seen from the maybury Rd, is a “silo” not true the tower supplied water to the Cammo House, these towers are common wherever large houses were built to supply water, Cammo tower as a boy & man had on top a wind driven water pump which filled a large cistern near the top which in turn supplied the hous it.s needs by gravity. An early 19th century water-tower, the Cammo Tower is located to the west of a minor road, a half-mile (1 km) south southwest of Cramond Bridge. This castellated round tower, with its corbelled out battlemented parapet, is associated with the former Cammo House, the ruins of which lie a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the north northwest.
