Okay it was a particular busy, but 30 minute wait for a coffee is un-acceptable. All would of been forgiven had the staff simply said sorry for your wait. Unfortunately they didn’t, and after 30 minutes the parking attendants where circling the car and I couldn’t wait any longer. I got my £2.05 back for the coffee, but again no sorry.

Its a shame because I won’t be back, I’ll choose Starbucks instead!

STV and Liverpool Mess up

December 14th, 2007

I actually complained to STV about Tuesdays mess up. So to my surprise I actually got a reply!

Why did STV list every where that the Liverpool game was
on STV, when in fact the Chelsea game was on. Not only that, it was on Channel 800 and ITV4.
A very upset Liverpool fan
Jamie

And the reply….

Thank you for getting in touch with stv.  We are sorry that you were
disappointed with the change in the schedule.  Unfortunately stv was
unable to show the Marseilles v Liverpool match due to contractual
issues, which meant we were forced to change the schedule at the last
minute.
Please allow me to explain the circumstances which led to the unique
situation that occurred last night.  stv is allowed to show two games
per card of fixtures in the Champions League competition.  UEFA moved
the Celtic match to last week, which we obviously chose to cover, taking
up one of our allocation.  Normally this would not have caused an issue
but with ITV4 showing the Chelsea match last night, and as this is
broadcast into Scotland, the Chelsea match had to count as our second
match.  We were not informed of this issue until the last minute. As
such, if stv had shown the Liverpool match, we would have been in breach
of our contract.
We understand that this last minute change was a disappointment for
viewers who were looking forward to the game.  We at stv were also
disappointed to find ourselves in this situation.  On this occasion, we
were notified very late in the day of this issue which meant we weren’t
able to change the listings in time.  As soon as we were aware of the
need to change the schedule, our continuity announcers made viewers
aware.
I hope this helps explain the circumstances which led to this last
minute change in our schedule.    Thank you again for getting in touch,
we value your comments and take on board all feedback.

I doubled check that the Liverpool game would be on STV (Scottish ITV) this morning. I even went to the STV website, see below…

STV - Champions League

Does anyone know why they’ve decided to show the practically meaningless Chelsea v Valencia game by simulcasting ITV4 instead of the do-or-die Marseille v Liverpool match on ITV1?
Thank goodness for channel 993…

God only knows the thinking of this decision,I can see it now:
Liverpool must win to qualify but we’ll just show Chelsea because they have already qualified top.
Another STV classic!

It is pretty weird.
Also lol at the STV logo on the screen. You can easily see the ITV4 logo behind it.

Because they showed celtic last week and showing Liverpool would mean stv/itv4 in scotland would have shown 3 matchday 6 games as opposed to the 2 they’re allowed to.

A lot of people will be disappointed because the listing and even the current EPG says Liverpool.
Must be something to do with the contract. STV showed their Champions League game last week. So this would be an additional one.
The picture quality is worse than ITV4 btw lol

If a Scottish club is in the Champs League then STV can show then regardless of what ITV1/4 are showing, hence the reason Scottish games on a Tuesday are covered by Sky and STV,which has always been the case AFAIK.
This is a joke decision of the highest order, who’s interested in Chelsea anyway??

7,000 Turbines by 2020

December 11th, 2007

Wind ‘could power all UK homes’

Wind farm

The aim is for 20% of EU energy to come from renewables by 2020.

All UK homes could be powered by offshore wind farms by 2020 as part of the fight against climate change, under plans unveiled by John Hutton.

Up to 7,000 turbines could be installed to boost wind produced energy 60-fold by 2020.

The business secretary admitted it would change Britain’s coastline, and mean higher electricity bills.

Senior Tory Alan Duncan backed the plans, adding: “We’re an island nation. There’s a lot of wind around.”

Mr Hutton said there would have to be a switch to low-carbon energy production to combat the threat of climate change.

Rust 2 Rome - Who’s game?

November 7th, 2007

Rust to Rome

I’ve mentioned before about this little adventure called Rust 2 Rome which involves driving from Edinburgh to Rome in a car costing no more than £250. More information below…

http://www.rust2rome.com/rust2rome-about.html

Rust 2 Rome 2008

So, Kirsty and I have decided to enter next years event which is likely to happen in the first week of June. I also believe Kirsty’s friend Derek is also keen.

So, if your interested leave me a comment or send me an email. If we get over 5 people, the plan is to have a boys and girls car!

The Car

I think we would need a car capable of doing 5,000 miles and anything else is a bonus! Here are a couple of vehicles I’ve looked at so far. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

£75 - 1.2L 1998 Renault Clio, 100,000 miles

A bit small I think

£185 - 1.4L Mercedes A Class

Must be something wrong with it for this price?

£250 - 1.6L Turbo Ford Escort

This boy race car has bounded to of been thrashed!

£250 - 2L Volvo 740 - 243,000 Miles

Can double up as living accommodation!
